We are the Chateau

Building a Community

In the early 1970s, members of the First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau set out to create a high-quality residential community for the area’s retiring population.

Based on the philosophy that residents should receive the most enjoyment possible from their retirement, plans for The Chateau would soon become reality. The Cape Retirement Community Inc. was formed as a non-profit, non-denominational organization to lead the development of the community.

By 1979, the first residents moved into beautiful new apartments at The Chateau Girardeau. Since then, The Chateau has grown – adapting with changes in our industry and local community – into the accredited and highly-regarded full-service campus you see today.

The Chateau celebrates over 40 years of offering premier senior living and continuing care to Cape Girardeau.
